It's not something the Church is proud of, but, it happened. Father Vermin Lasuen founded the mission in 1775, but, shortly after, heard there was an uprising in San Diego involving some surly natives and he and his soldiers left to help out. Padres always travelled with soldiers back in the day. Anyway, in 1776, Father Junipero Serra, the Saint, traveled back to the mission to found it for a second time. Some kind of voodoo thing happened to Father Lasuen in San Diego and he became one eight the man he was. Father Serra, the Saint, took pity on Father Lasuen and carried him back to the mission with him. Father Serra now called Father Lasuen, Mini-Lasuen, much to the annoyance of Father Lasuen.
